About Open Source

This is the category for products whose source code is open to read, run and change. Apps, libraries, self-hosted tools and open AI projects all compete here, and every entry is judged in public. The community votes, and votes can never be bought, so a high place in the table has to be earned by the project itself.

A category page lists the products and businesses in Open Source and its four subcategories, with filters to narrow the table. Listings appear newest first by default; sort by community votes to see who holds gold, silver and bronze. Each listing has one main category, chosen at submission and included free. Read the licence and check the repository before you rely on anything you find here.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in the Open Source category?
Products and businesses whose code is published for others to inspect and use. That covers finished apps, libraries that developers build on, tools you run on your own servers, and open AI projects. If the code is closed, a different category fits better.
How do I choose between the subcategories?
Ask who uses it and where it runs. End users who want a finished program go to Open source apps. Developers importing code go to Developer libraries. Teams hosting it themselves go to Self-hosted tools. Models and AI tooling go to Open source AI. Pick the closest fit as your main category.
How do I get my open source project listed?
Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, then you check and edit every field before anything goes live. A paid launch costs $5; a free listing joins a queue of about 1-2 weeks.
How are listings ordered on this page?
Newest first by default, so fresh launches lead the list. Visitors can switch to sort by community votes and see the leaders at the top of the table. Votes can never be bought, so the vote ranking reflects what visitors actually rate.
What should I compare when choosing an open source product?
Check the licence terms, how clearly the documentation is written, and whether the project looks actively maintained. Compare how easy it is to install and to leave later. For self-hosted options, consider what you must run and look after yourself.
